Louisiana Roads in Bad Shape, Lawsuit Filed

This article discusses the deplorable condition of Louisiana roadways in general. Besides the roads themselves being in bad shape, they are also poorly maintained. I’m currently litigating a case where my client was injured in a motorcycle accident due to DOTD failing to cleanup gravel in a well traveled roadway. The accident happened in Abbeville, Louisiana. Because of the accident, my client sat in a wheelchair for 6 months and had several major surgeries. After the accident, DOTD employees spent 7.5 man hours cleaning up the gravel. Why did they wait until after the accident to cleanup the gravel? With a proper maintenance plan, the accident could have been avoided altogether.

A (redacted) copy of the lawsuit is linked below. Fortunately for my client, we were able to reach a settlement with the driver’s insurance carrier for policy limits. However, the policy limits do not come close to paying for all of my clients’ medical bills, lost wages, and other damages. So we are pursuing the case against DOTD for failure to maintain the roadway in a reasonably safe condition.
